Sometimes you will get a “Spotify app is not responding” error, but sometimes it just stops responding to clicks on your computer or phone. For example, the application may not open, it may not play music, the buttons may not respond, or other music playback elements may not work.

Restart your device to fix Spotify not responding

Restarting your device may fix any glitch that causes Spotify to stop responding. Once the reset happens, log back into your account, launch Spotify and see if it's working.
To restart a Windows 11 PC, right-click the To start button and select Shut down or log out > Shut down or restart.
Restart your Android device
Resetting your Android phone or tablet varies between devices. Press and hold the power button and tap on restart button on the screen.
Restart your iPhone or iPad
To restart your iPhone or iPad, press and hold the Volume up button or Low volume button and the Side button simultaneously until you see the Slide to turn off slider.
Restart your Mac computer
To restart your Mac to fix Spotify not responding, click choose Apple Menu > Restart in the upper left corner.
Restart your Chromebook
If you are running Spotify on a Chromebook, you can restart your Chromebook to resolve the issue of it not responding.
Open the Settings menu and click the power button. Your Chromebook will turn off and you can press the physical power button to turn it back on.
After restarting your device you will be running Spotify, restart the app and see if it responds and works properly.
Restart the Spotify app
When Spotify is not responding on your device, you may not want to restart it. Instead, you can restart the Spotify app to make it respond correctly.
To restart Spotify, click the button X to close and restart the application. Alternatively, in Windows 10 or 11, you can right-click the taskbar It is select Task Manager.
Right click on the Spotify app and select End task.
Additionally, on your mobile device, you can restart the app by swiping up on the screen and tapping the Spotify app icon to restart it.
Update the Spotify app
Spotify may not be responding because it needs a pending update with fixes. You want to make sure Spotify is up to date on your computer and phone.

To update the Spotify app on Windows 11, open the Microsoft Store, click Library in the lower left corner and click the button Get updates button. Scroll through the list and select the To update button next to Spotify.
Uninstall and reinstall Spotify
If you continue to have problems with Spotify not responding, you can uninstall and reinstall it to fix the problem. You can uninstall and reinstall the Spotify app on your phone by following the steps below. Here, we'll start by doing this on your iPhone.
- On your iPhone or iPad, tap and hold the Spotify icon and select Remove app of the menu.
- Select the Delete application option in the verification menu.
- tap on Delete button in the final verification message.
- After the app is removed, open the App Store and install a new version of Spotify app.
Reinstall Spotify on Android
Reinstalling Spotify on Android varies a bit between platforms and devices, but the idea is the same. Long press the Spotify iconselect Uninstall, and continue with the on-screen instructions.
- Find the Spotify app, long press the icon, tap the Uninstall button and follow the on-screen verification instructions that appear.
- Once Spotify has been removed from your phone or tablet, open the Android Play Store or Apple Play Store and install a new, updated version of the app.
Once you install a new version of Spotify on your system, you should no longer have any issues with it becoming unresponsive.
Reinstall Spotify on a Windows PC
If you run the Spotify desktop app on Windows, you can uninstall it and reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.
- tighten Windows Key to open the Start menu.
- Right-click on the Spotify icon if it is pinned to Start or search for it in the top field. Right click on the icon and select Uninstall in the menu that appears.
- click on the Uninstall button when the verification message appears – it only takes a moment to uninstall.
- After Spotify is uninstalled, reinstall a new, updated version from the Microsoft Store or download the installer file directly from Spotify's servers.
Disable Hardware Acceleration on Spotify
If you continue to have problems with the desktop version of Spotify, you can try disabling hardware acceleration. The hardware acceleration feature is intended to help older hardware keep up with streaming media. But sometimes it doesn't work and may cause Spotify to become unresponsive.
To disable hardware acceleration:
- Start the Spotify app on your desktop.
- Click on your profile icon in the upper right corner and choose settings of the menu.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Settings screen; under Compatibility section, disable the option Enable hardware acceleration button.
Fixing Spotify Unresponsive
Whether it's the Spotify app on your phone or the desktop app, you can use the above options to fix the Spotify not responding issue. Typically, the problem is temporary and restarting Spotify or your device will resolve the issue.
However, if the problem persists, you can uninstall and reinstall the app to make it work again. Also, if you are using the web version of Spotify and it is unresponsive, you can clear your cookies and cache to fix the problem.
