How to Disable Restricted Mode on YouTube

If your device blocks adult content on YouTube, you or another user may have accidentally turned on Restricted Mode. Or you may have more than one account where it has been activated. Maybe you turned it on because you have young children.

Whatever the case, turning it off is simple.

To disable YouTube Restricted Mode on your computer:

  1. Launch a web browser, navigate to YouTube, and sign in (if you haven't already).
  2. Click on your profile icon at the top right corner.
  3. select Restricted mode in the context menu.
  4. Now toggle the Enable restricted mode button for the Off position.

Once you disable it, your YouTube screen will refresh and more videos – including adult content – will appear in your feed for you to view. If you use more than one browser, launch them and make sure Restricted mode It's out there too.

How to disable restricted mode on YouTube on mobile devices

Turning it off is simple if Restricted Mode is enabled on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. You just need to know where to go.

To turn off Restricted Mode on YouTube on your mobile device:

  1. open the YouTube app on your phone or tablet and log in if you haven't already.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
  3. At the Profile menutap Definitions option.
  4. In Definitions menu, tap In general on the list.
  5. In In general section options, toggle the Restricted mode resource for the Off position.

Please note that if you use YouTube on multiple devices, you will need to disable Restricted Mode on each of them. Just follow the same steps on other devices. YouTube doesn't sync the Restricted Mode setting across your devices.

There are other ways to help users avoid adult content on their devices. For example, you can block or unblock websites on an iPhone and even block the YouTube app. Also, if you use the Microsoft Edge browser, try using Kids Mode for safer browsing.

If you're a PC user, you can set up parental controls in Windows 11, or if you're not on 11 yet, you can turn on parental controls in Windows 10. Don't forget about your streaming services, too. For example, you can use parental controls on Netflix and even set it up on Disney+.
