Play as a cargo pilot in space, embarking on a horrific journey in the new survival horror game, The Callisto Protocol. After your airship crashes, you are taken prisoner in the Black Iron Prison. But something has gone terribly wrong at the Prison from the moment you arrived. Humans transformed into horrible, hostile, hungry abominations. Are there survivors? Who is Dani? What is happening in this prison? This is our guide on how to melee, dodge and block in The Callisto Protocol.

How to Attack

Our character, Jacob is a heavy hitter. With his first primary weapon being a giant hammer. Players can melee using the R2 or RT controller button. Jacob's attacks are slow, with each strike having an impact. Here players need to time their attacks well and get out of combos after evading the enemy's attack. Be careful as the enemy can land a combo after landing one. Jacob's swing is slow and can be difficult to get used to, especially early in the game. We recommend playing with patience and timing your attacks well.

Since Jacob takes longer to swing his weapon, unlike the fighting mechanics we see in other games, players shouldn't be too greedy when trying to pull off combos. You'll probably only get 1 combo in a fight, maybe none if there are multiple enemies in the room. When locked in a fight scene, you may need to smash Triangle It is Y to get out of a difficult situation.

A very important note: Jacob is locked into the attack, which means that if the enemy performs a combo when you are, the enemy will likely stun you first. You you can not dodge if you've already pressed the right trigger to attack. Jacob must begin his attack before you can use the left analog stick to dodge again.

How to dodge

Dodging in The Callisto Protocol is by using the left analog stick. As you fight an enemy, be it human or something that has lost all humanity, players are stuck with the fighting mechanic where instead of running away and repositioning themselves, players have to dodge attacks. You can dodge by holding the left analog stick and pulling to the left or right. Players can dodge throughout the fight as they get closer to the enemy. While there is no timed attack window, be aware that you still need to time your dodges as soon as you spot the enemy attacking you.

The dodge mechanics are fluid and, by timing it well, you will have an opening to perform a combo. Just be careful of the enemy attacking you immediately after being hit by one of your blows. If you try to combo too often, the enemy will punish you. If the enemy tries to do a combo when you're not attacking, hold the left stick in one direction and then switch to the other side. To pull I left It is right repeatedly to create a dodge sequence. This goes no work if you continually pull to one side.

How to block

Sometimes you can't dodge every move, especially when there are multiple enemies coming after you. In these cases, you must block the attack. To lock, pull back at the left analog stick, Jacob will automatically block when you retreat. This is very useful when there are 2 or more enemies in a room. Blocking does not stun the enemy, so only use it as a means of blocking combo attacks. Once again, play patiently and wait for an opening to attack. Remember not to be greedy when performing combo moves as you will be punished.

On a final note, consult the chip on the back of Jacob's head to see his health. This is crucial to look at during a fight. Don't neglect this visual cue.
